Soniccouture has announced the release of Hammersmith Free, a free virtual piano instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt.
This is the free version of the highly acclaimed Hammersmith Pro featuring a Model D Grand. The piano was recorded in British Grove Studio, Mark Knopfler’s recording facility in Hammersmith (hence its name), West London. The recording room is large with a double-height ceiling, and a very clear & pure acoustic.
Hammersmith Free has a simple layout from where you can adjust the microphone position (a pair of Schoeps MK4 mics).
But once you open the “Settings” page, you can fine-tune the response and performance of Hammersmith – tweak instrument noise details, fine-tune the playing response to your exact touch.
There’s also a simple effects page, with a 4-band EQ to shape your piano sound. The Space Reverb module features Soniccouture’s custom impulse library built up over many years and recording sessions.
Features
- Free Download
- 2.8 GB Library

All in all, Hammersmith Free is perfect for all those looking for a true virtual piano instrument. And it really costs nothing, since it runs on the free edition of Kontakt – the Player version (VST/AU/RTAS/AAX). This is a big gesture from the good guys at Soniccouture!
