Martinic has announced the release of Kee Bass, a free virtual instrument plugin that emulates the Rheem Kee Bass monophonic string bass keyboard from the ’60s.

Martinic Kee Bass is based on the original electronic schema and an actual physical Kee Bass. It uses only physical modeling, no sampling at all. The only difference is the developer added a few modern features, such as an extended range, a filter, and modulation.

The interface is very cool with its combo-organ style switches, “Bass Booster” slider and the black keyboard. There’s also an advanced settings page where you can access the LP filter, filter mod, an AD envelope and many other features.

The plugin is 100% free; however, it requires a license key which may cause many to give up installing it. But don’t be intimidated, the whole process takes a maximum of 2 minutes. First, download and install the demo version (get the installer that suits you), then download the license key. Open the installer again, but this time check the “License key” box where it writes “Select components to install”. Make sure you uncheck the other boxes. You will be prompted to locate and load the license key (.txt file).

Martinic Kee Bass is available for Windows and macOS in VST and AU formats (64-bit supported).
