Vadim Taranov of VTarAmps in collaboration with Ugritone has announced the release of P.R.O.T.O. FOUR, a free amp simulator plugin for heavy metal tones.
P.R.O.T.O. FOUR was inspired by the design and tonal shaping capabilities of Mesa Mark series amplifiers and their sounding overall.
First published in the 1st quarter of 2018 as an experimental amp simulator (MegaFuzzie MKIV), it received a lot of love from guitarists throughout all this time due to its versatility, practicality, and sound.
Now, this amp sim reincarnates into P.R.O.T.O. FOUR with new features, much enhanced and extended tonal shaping capabilities, and of course, better graphics.
The amp sim covers a lot of ’80s and ’90s metal tones and is even able to pull out some great modern tones. It now features a bypassable preamp section, power amp section, and even a new fuzz & fizz section that can come in handy for getting some extraordinary tones.
The tone stack section also has been improved miles ahead of MegaFuzzie MKIV amp sim contributing to easier, faster, and deeper tone manipulation.
A tube screamer is not required due to such gain controls that may allow adjusting the distortion character throughout all the frequency response spectrum of guitars.
P.R.O.T.O. FOUR is available as 32 and 64-bit VST plugin for digital audio workstations on Windows. A macOS version isn’t available.
The download is instant, you won’t be asked for an email address or subscription.
