Autodafe has announced the release of XoX Drums, a free instrument for Kontakt based on the samples of Roland XoX series drum machines (606, 707, 808 and 909).
The main instrument has 5 vertical slots for kicks, snare/rim/clap, hats (closed, open, pedal), cymbal/cowbell, toms (hi, mid, low).
Each slot has different selectable kits of sounds, allowing many different combinations. You can choose from 28 different kicks, 28 snares/rim/clap combinations, as well as 12 closed & open hats, 8 cymbals & cowbells and 8 toms.
Again, each slot comes with separate controls such as level, pan and tune, attack and sustain, and solo/mute buttons. Additionally, there is an independently selectable filter unit with three filter types, cutoff and resonance, plus a switchable tube or transistor distortion section.
Last but not least, XoX Box has a dedicated reverb send level per sample slot, which controls the amount of sound that is sent to the reverb bus channel.
XoX Drums has an onboard drum sequencer with 32 selectable patterns, as well as a dedicated drum delay and reverb. The instrument will normally load as a stereo instrument, but can be switched to multi-output, with user assignable outs.
Regarding the license, Autodafe says that all samples come from free sources and are believed to be free/public domain. A full version of Native Instruments Kontakt 5.6 is needed, the free Kontakt Player isn’t supported.
