NS Drums has announced the release of J-311 v1.5, a free Kontakt drum library featuring recordings of live drum samples.

J-311 is an extensive sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt containing 311 samples (44 kHz/24-bit Stereo), weighing in at 465MB. They were captured with original technology on a premium equipment. For a more realistic feel, the samples were recorded playing with right and left hands.

There are up to 27 layers on each instrument note, plus J-311 offers the ability to customize each instrument sound individually using effects such as 4-band equalizer, two types of compressors and reverb. You can adjust the volume, pan, tune, attack, hold, decay for each instrument individually.

The interface is well structured into three pages. First, the main console is the place where you have each drum sample on its own channel. You can fine tune each drum sample to get the sound suitable for your needs. Next page is “FX” loaded with equalizers and compressors, while the third is a master console with global FX and a list of pre-made presets/kits. For a freebie (and not only), J-311 is very well built, with an intuitive and coherent interface.

J-311 free Kontakt drum library requires a full version of Native Instruments Kontakt. In the free Kontakt Player version, it will be functional only 15 minutes with each opening. If you don’t own Kontakt, no problem, you can use the included one-shot drum samples (311 WAV files) in any drum sampler of your choice.

The download size is 264MB compressed ZIP file.
