Review: Drum Ensemble Volume 2 by Dollar Bin

Dollar Bin has announced today Drum Ensemble Volume 2, a new drum kit for hip hop and EDM, exclusively for sale via dollarbindrums.com.

This package comes after the first part – which was free for a limited time – and has been enjoyed huge success since its launch. Volume 1 has independently reached over 8K downloads and was even picked up and re-branded by acclaimed hip hop producer iLLMIND for his new website.

Drum Ensemble Volume 2 is more refined and finely made, it is clear that two years have passed fruitfully for Dollar Bin. The drums sound more professional, while an own style is clearly defined: bold, lazy, synthetic, and sometimes pompous to parade. Personally, I am super excited by the overall sound, as well as sound design, I always appreciated people who have the guts to express their style and to deviate from the route clearly defined and sometimes boring.

Dollar Bin is one of the avant-garde producers who deserve special attention. Listening his tracks (BTW, there are 7 of them included for free in the pack), you can clearly see that he does not give a damn about what’s around today: an intelligent sound, where the logic is combined with a crazy tribal rhythm obtained from various percussions, obscure synths & everyday sounds, a perfect mélange of organic and synthetic. Spastically rhythmic and carnivalesque – this is the music of Dollar Bin. And I f*****’ like it!

    Audio demo:

So it goes without saying my excitement when I found that all the drums are taken from his music. Nothing is more real than something taken directly from the context. The pack contains over 160 drum sounds (kicks, snares, hi-hats, claps, percussions, sound and vocal effects) recorded in 24-bit/44.1kHz WAV, stereo format, normalized samples. Crème de la crème!

Drum Ensemble Volume 2 comes in two flavors, processed and dry, but unlike other drum kits where we are shown multiple instances of the same sounds, you will not find similar sounds in the two versions: you have 160 unique drum sounds. The dry kit is intended for up and coming producers, to mangle and experiment with on their own sound. The processed kit is Dollar Bin’s showcase of style, skills and swagg. Drum sounds fully processed through customized Dollar Bin master channels, to capture the unique characteristics of each sound.

As a bonus, you will find inside 20 exclusive drum loops fully EQ’d, compressed & handcrafted by the man himself, as well as the songs used in the drum kit preview.

Drum Ensemble Volume 2, with its clear and full-bodied drums and percussion shots, is a must for all producers looking for fresh material, and especially for a kit for everyday use. With a price of just $20, is a no-brainer.
