Planet Botch has announced the release of The Ensembletron, a free VST instrument plugin for Windows.
The Ensembletron is an analogue-type string synth with character and a special three-stage Ensemble effect section for rich, spatial stereo animation. The Tone Management controls section allows you to create anything from ’70s vintage lo-fi to bright ’80s hi-fi. A set of simple envelope tools lets you shape the attack, decay, sustain, and infinity, the last one being a on/off switch for decay.
By default, The Ensembletron produces a pure fundamental string note. Here comes the Sub switch, which adds a lower, “cello-pitch” register one octave beneath the main fundamental, the result being a rich and more substantial sound, in an “orchestral” style.
The free VST instrument comes with 12 factory presets, which serve as good “jumping off points” for tweaking highly usable patches. It can be used in pop and EDM, classic and modern music styles. In the short demo below, I used only two instances of The Ensembletron- a “Simples” preset sidechained and a “Retronotes” preset with more room (plus a drum loop). The genre is an attempt of pop with classic disco influences.
