R-8 MkII free sample pack by Boxed Ear, is the new addition in the freebies section of their website.
R-8 MkII is a set of 58 drum sounds sampled from a Roland R-8 MkII 90’s drum machine, though an UA 1176 compressor. As the makers explain, the sample pack isn’t an exhaustive sampling of the R-8, instead being focused on the electronic sounds that made this drum machine popular among artists such as Aphex Twin and Autechre.

Roland R-8 MkII drum machine is still much revered today for its clean, deep sound. The original R-8 focussed on acoustic sounds, but the popularity of two sound card expansions featuring TR-808, TR-909 and CR-78 samples, prompted Roland to release the MkII which had most of those sounds already built in.
R-8 MkII free sample is perfect for IDM, electronic, and experimental music. The pack contains 58 files (24-bit WAV format). The download size is 5.5MB compressed.
