tor.helge.skei has announced the release of fx_cutter, a free audio mangling VST effect plugin for Windows.
In fx_cutter, the audio is continually recorded into a buffer and randomly few slices will be selected and subdivided and some effects will be applied. Wich each take, the audio material will sound different.
For the moment, fx_cutter is available for 32-bit Windows plugin hosts only, while a 64-bit version gets few fixes and will be published soon. I tested it in FL Studio and at least so far I have not found any problems or errors. However, this plugin seems a little difficult to control, but maybe this is a big part of its charm. It is quite obvious that with fx_cutter results will always be unpredictable.

fx_cutter goes perfectly with any audio material, especially loops – synthlines or drumloops. In FL Studio, load a loop, assign it an insert in mixer, add the fx_cutter and press play. Do not think that you’ll have absolute control over the sound, this plugin makes it more of one of those who rely on probability, so it is recommended that you record the audio material in Edison, then cut what suits you. But don’t think that you’re fully left “adrift”, you have some control over parameters such as speedup, slowdown, halve, double etc. The usual “beats” and “slices” controls can be found too.
fx_cutter is a little plugin with big potential in glitch, minimal, experimental and trap. It is available as free and instant download (a .dll file weighing under 1MB).
