PatchArena and bigcat instruments release Double Bass Pizz (SFZ, Kontakt & VST)

PatchArena has announced the release of Double Bass Pizz, a free double bass sample library in SFZ format. This instrument is featuring samples recorded from an Anton Krutz Model Double Bass.

For the recording process, the author used an Earthworks QTC40 microphone. The result: 41 chromatic bass samples delivered in 24bit, 44.1k, total size being around 25 MB.

These samples should be flexible enough to compliment other orchestral sample library bass pizz sections. Use the samples to fill out and embellish your orchestral Bass sections. Layer multiple instruments with different EQ, volume, and panning for more realistic sections or divisions. The samples would also work well for a plucked jazz bass, experiment with various uses.

Below, you’ll find a list of freeware players for SFZ files:

SFZ Sample Player by Cakewalk. The free SFZ Sample Player developed by Cakewalk is maybe the the best available, offering an oustanding sound quality, built-in effects, adjustable CPU/quality settings to adjust it to your hardware, fully multi-timbral operation and several loading modes including direct-from-disk streaming to make sfz the perfect choice for SoundFont enthusiasts and composers. You can download it for free here.

sforzando is a free, highly SFZ 2.0 compliant sample player developed as a powerful tool to experiment and share instruments without relying on proprietary formats. sforzando has only one instrument slot- no fancy UI, effects or mixers. Download it for free here.

Another great freeware SFZ player is the one developed by Camel Audio which comes with a bonus of 1GB of samples. Available on PC and Mac in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions for VST, Audio Units and RTAS formats. You can get it for free here.

Back to the free Double Bass Pizz, you can play it in your favourite SFZ player, but if you’re a Kontakt owner, please check also the NI Kontakt version by bigcat instruments. The NKI works with Kontakt 5. You can download the NKI file here.
